Bayview Secondary School is embarking on a community project to landscape the front of our school. We would like to thank one of our parents Mr. Neil Pike of Neil Pike Limited Landscape Architects and Contractors, for donating his time and providing us with a terrific landscape design for the front of our school. This design is an environmentally friendly, low maintenance plan where recyclable/reusable material will be used. We are currently awaiting approval of this plan from the York Region District School Board. Many members of our community including School Council, Students, Staff and Community Leaders are assisting us with this project.
There are numerous ways in which you as parents can help us enhance the aesthetics of Bayview Secondary School. This can be done through monetary means, plant and/or shrub contributions, or by just lending a hand. The following lists outline the type and approximate cost of the plant material. If you have perennials and are willing to divide them they will find a welcome home in our new front beds at Bayview.
Our design includes hundreds of perennials that enjoy both sun and partial shade. As you maybe aware there are thousands of perennials on the market. We have provided a brief sample of some of the species that will survive the west exposure of Bayview with its limited shaded areas. If you are purchasing a perennial for the plan please keep in mind that the site has full sun exposure and these plants should be drought tolerant.
Tough rugged ground covers will be planted and will replace sod in the areas that we are currently having difficulty keeping alive (mainly under our large shade trees).
We have outlined the number and type of shrubs that are part of our plan. If you are able to assist us with the purchase or monetary contribution for these plants please complete form A or B. If you would like to contribute a perennial please complete form C.
Forms and plant material or monetary contributions are to be dropped off in the main office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
If for any reason your contribution needs to be dropped off at any other time please contact the school (905-884-4453) and we will try to accommodate you to the best of our ability.
We would like our garden beds to be in the following colour schemes. The following lists are examples only.
Yellow
Our design asks for a few areas to use ground covers. We would like to restrict the variety to the following two; periwinkle and English ivy. In many nurseries you may purchase ground covers in various containers such as grower flats which contain (100 plants), 2½ “ peat pots flats, or singles. We will need a large quantity of these plants in order to cover the designated areas.
Please restrict your choice of shade plants to those that are drought tolerant.
