“An estimated 38.6 million are living with HIV worldwide. 4.1 million [have been] newly infected in 2005 and 2.8 million [have] died of AIDS in 2005” (WHO Website). Ever since its first diagnosis in 1981, the AIDS epidemic has been one of the most devastating issues known to us. It doesn’t discriminate and is terrorizing people around the world. Many organizations such as the Stephen Lewis Foundation have taken the initiative to raise awareness around the world and support the fight against HIV/AIDS. Will you join this initiative and support the cause? Wear red on December 1, 2006 on the World AIDS Day. Between December 4 and December 8, Bayview’s AIDE Committee will be selling HAND-MADE red ribbons for $1 each. They will be sold in the front foyer during lunch hours. All proceeds will be going to the Stephen Lewis Foundation or towards funding an AIDE (Aiming for Individual Development and Empowerment) Conference that will be held in May 2007 to raise awareness about this issue. Come and support this cause because AIDS is not a national but a worldwide crisis and it is up to citizens like us to make a change. Sincerely, Ramak Khosravi, Jessica Cheung and Nymisha Chilukuri Teacher Advisor: Ms. Kirshenblat
