Departments --->Computer Studies --->Computer Use Policy
In order to protect the computer information technology resources assigned to our school
by our school board from costly repairs, and to ensure that these resources are available
for our students and staff, a computer use policy has been implemented.
Each of the following policies is valid for all computer studies students at any computer in the school.
- Installing programs onto the network or on workstations is NOT allowed without permission of
the network administrator or the principal.
- Sending, creating, storing or displaying inappropriate mail messages, documents, or graphics is
NOT allowed on any school computer. This includes material that is violent, racist, degrading to
men or women, designed to inflict harm to another person, etc.
- No food, drink, snacks or gum is to be taken into or consumed in any room with a computer.
Water bottles with spill-proof tops are allowed at desks only.
- No programs on the computer network are to be copied without the written permission of the
school network administrator or principal.
- You are NOT allowed to exceed your user storage space maximum. For this reason, clean out
old or unwanted files regularly.
- It is your responsibility to maintain the security of your password and you may be held
responsible for anyone who uses your user i.d. for inappropriate activities. You should change
your password every 14 days. Do not use a password that is easy to guess e.g. your birthday.
- Students are allowed to save files in their own user space only (drive g:). These files are
monitored regularly for inappropriate material.
- Copyright material may not be stored on school computers without permission of the copyright
holder. This includes MP3 files and games.
- Students may NOT attempt to make any physical changes to their computers, and are
responsible for any physical damage to their assigned work space and computer.
- Students who waste or use excessive quantities of computer paper maybe charged for the paper
(25 cents/page). This encourages the responsible use of the school printing resources. You are
encouraged to read your document carefully from the screen before printing to prevent waste.
The classroom printers are not to be used for work from other classes.
- Inappropriate use of the Internet will NOT be tolerated.

Your teacher may recommend to the school administration one or more consequences from the following:
