United Way & CAP Campaign
CAP is an acronym that stands for the Children's Adoption Program.  It's main focus centres around CAP week, where we raise money through a series of activities and with the help of many others to support children in third world countries and their deficiency needs. During the months of April, May and October the terms BBQ, raffle, pizza sale, flower sale, candy gram, pie throwing and walk-a-thon, become major parts of the vocabulary of the students and staff at Bayview as they play their fund raising activities.  We meet once a month in Room G3.  Our motto is : 'With every successful effort we make a smile is brought upon a child's face'.  You can contact us at bayviewsscap@hotmail.com.

Bayview has a tradition of giving. For over 30 years Bayview has been supporting foster children around the world. It started off as the Korean Adoption Plan and has evolved. Every year the students support the spring campaign through classroom activities to raise the necessary funds for our foster children. Currently we have five children spread throughout Central and South America, India and Africa. Since 1974 the students and staff have extended their generosity to our local hospital, York Central, giving $38,000.

Over the last five yeras Bayview has expanded its charitable ways by supporting the United Way Campaign of York Region. The staff and students band together during the month of October to raise funds for this worthy cause. The format follows the same path as the CAP campaign with classroom activities and donations. The United Way has been the recipient of over $12,000 in the last five years.
WITHOUT A DOUBT BAYVIEW SECONDARY SCHOOL HAS THE BIGGEST OF ALL SCHOOLS IN YORK REGION. THAT IS BAYVIEW'S SPIRIT!

Yearbook
The yearbook is one of the most unique and demanding activities at Bayview Secondary School. Every year the students produce a very professional book that reflects what has happened over the school year. This is such a daunting task that the students have divided the work into three departments. These are the photography, sales and advertising, and layout. Each of these departments has a team of students who complete the book.
Under the leadership of The Editor-In-Chief, the photographers take pictures of the various school events over the year. The photographers are a dedicated group that always have their camera ready. From the important events to the more candid shots, all the pictures help to contribute to the finished product.
The advertising and sales group help to generate revenue for the yearbook. Sales of the yearbooks account for the majority of the money the yearbook needs. Additional funds are also received from local businesses who wish to advertise in the yearbook. Students with accounting and sales skills assist greatly in this department. They begin thier duties during Registration week.
The department with the enormous responsibility of preparing the book is layout. Each page of the book must be organized on a layout sheet. Pictures are selected and copy is written for over one hundred yearbook pages. These layout sheets are then mailed to our publisher for the production of the yearbook. Deadlines are strictly adhered to.
The result of all this hard work makes the effort all worthwhile. There is a tremendous sense of pride and satisfaction when the finished yearbook arrives in the spring. Photography, advertising and sales and layout have all contributed to the final product. For the school, there stands a permanent record of one school year at Bayview Secondary School. The staff advisor this year is Ms. Sachedina.

DECA
Bayview's DECA is a chapter of DECA Ontario, an association of business students devoted to offering extra-curricular opportunities for high school students to develop business skills.  Each year our chapter of approximately 100 members competes at the Regional, Provincial and National level in both oral and written events.  Last year, our chapter included 115 members, and we sent 9 students to the National Competition and Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas. The usual meetings are Wednesdays and Fridays after school in room 208. This year, Bayview's DECA executives hosted the Eastern GTA DECA Regional Competition. It took place on Saturday, November 25 2006 at Bayview Secondary School. The event was a great success with 515 competitors, 30 Leadership Conference Delegates, 60 Judges and 38 Staff Advisors. Congratulations Bayview DECA!  For more information about Bayview DECA, visit our website: www.bssdeca.ca and feel free to email at: prez_georgia@bssdeca.ca.

Poetry Club
I would like to formally introduce you to Bayview, “Poetry Lit.” It is a club based around: studying works of well-known Canadian Poets, as well as learning more about Poetry and how to improve writing skills. I encourage you, and your fellow classmates to take part in this lost art form. Poetry is not a prime interest in teaching curriculum anymore, and due to this; students have lost a medium to express themselves, as well as philosophize. I took the liberty to create a club for my own love of poetry and to hope Bayview would also support the lost medium. The club takes place every Wednesday at Noon, in room 222. I hope to see you there! New members always welcome!

My Solider Boy
Darkness lies in a river of diamonds,
Black as a sea of coal;
While cravings are cast and foreseen,
Far past human truth and scientific control.

I summon his ghostly presence,
Sitting patiently
Praying to see him come:
As rain streaks my face with resistance,
Piercing the boneless nerves of my tongue.

I long to see him come
I long to see him tonight,
Lying down to witness the darkness
I wish upon the velvet heaven height.

Keep him safe from danger,
Protect him like a guardian with tender care:
And rescue him from failure,
If any lurks, beware.

Sweet dreams my solider boy,
And until morrow springs;
Lay down to witness the diamonds -
The joy of natural things.
