From the 1961 Bayview High Official Opening brochure:
"The school is located on the east side of Bayview Avenue just north of Markham Road on a
fifteen acre site formerly a part of the Elliott farm. Tenders were opened on January 28, 1960 and classes
which had been organized in Richmond Hill High School in September came to the new school on
November 14th. The architects were Page and Steele of Toronto. The general contractor was
L. Asmussen Ltd. of Kitchener.
The building which will cost approximately $800,000 including equipment is designed to accommodate
430 pupils. It is composed of a double gymnasium, cafeteria, shop, home economics room,
library, art room, commercial room, music room, two laboratories and seven regular classrooms.
Provision has been made for an addition of 15 rooms to accommodate and additional 440 pupils.
This addition is planned to opened in September 1962.
The present enrolement is 307".
Bayview Secondary School currently houses approximately 1,600 students and 90 staff members. It
has a well balanced selection of courses that meet the needs of the community. A wide range of
extra curricular activities take place on a daily basis. It also has an award winning web
site that is admired by people throughout the world. We have many email messages commending us
on our school and our web site. We are currently in the application phase of getting the
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for the fall of 2004. Please check our main page
